Alabama State is a public, historically black university. It was founded as a Normal school in 1867, joined the state university system in 1887, and gained university status in 1969. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, and Health Sciences, and the School of Music. Its 114-acre campus is located near downtown Montgomery.
