Rehabilitation Counselors

Special Requirements

Applicants for licensure as Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors must meet the following requirements:


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

   •   Must have a bachelor’s degree in education, health or human services from a regionally accredited college or university, or a diploma in nursing


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

   •   Applicants who do not meet the above educational requirements must have received 2,000 hours of training or experience in performing the services that will be offered to a workers’ compensation claimant
   •   Experience must be documented and proof must be furnished.


EXAM:

   •   Applicants not meeting the requirements for endorsement (the educational and/or experience requirements listed above) must pass an examination in ethical issues
   •   It is a 25 question multiple - choice exam
   •   Administered in Richmond every eight weeks
   •   The first administration will be July 12
   •   Applicants will be scheduled for the exam on a first - come, first - served basis.


LICENSE RENEWAL:

   •   Certificate expires on January 31 of each year and must be renewed before this time

   •   Application: $100
   •   Renewal: $50
   •   Exam: No Fee
